ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT
Orthodontics is a specialization in dentistry that deals with the treatment of malocclusion ( incorrect bites, irregularly placed teeth). It includes diagnosis, prevention & correction of malpositioned teeth & jaws.
The prevalence of malocclusion in India has been observed to be ranging from 20%-43%(Journal of Dental Heath Oral Disorders & Therapy).
This treatment usually includes non surgical procedures but if malocclusion is very severe jaw surgery may be used. And extraction of teeth may also require to create space in severely crowded teeth cases.
Orthodontics treatment usually started before a person reaches adulthood since teeth can be easily moved in the bone.
This therapy can include use of fixed or removable appliances. The majority of treatment is delivered using fixed appliances as fixed appliances can have a greater mechanical control & treatment outcome.
